Bertis McLemore is the School Based Service Worker for Checotah’s Elementary and Intermediate Schools. He is housed in Marshall Elementary and may be reached at 689-8066.
PURPOSE:
The School Based Service Worker (SBSW) provides a link between home, school and community. This service enables students and their families to participate successfully in the school program.
The SBSW participates in family conferences, conducts home visits when needed, is readily accessible to students and families, provides information and access to services, and serves as a liaison between school officials, students, and families.
The SBSW is here to help in whatever way will best benefit the student and his/her family.
SOME AREAS THAT THE SBSW MAY ASSIST FAMILIES:
- OKDHS services, including Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), food stamps, health care and child care
- Counseling referrals
- Disabled children’s programs and other disability service
- Head lice treatment products
- Information regarding many of the area services
- This program is a partnership between Checotah Public Schools and Oklahoma Department of Human Services
